David A. Garza, County Commissioner, Pct. #3, Joe Vega,
Port Isabel Mayor, Bob Cornelison, SB/PI Navigation Director
and concerned Long Island residence discussing dust issues.

Port Isabel, TX - On September 17th, 2009, Commissioner Garza along with the newly organized Laguna Madre Area Dust Control Committee met in the hopes of trying to identify the areas that continue to be a menace in air quality in Long Island, Port Isabel and the rest of the lower Laguna Madre.  The dust issues have continued to affect everyone, from A.E.P.'s electric transmission lines to TX Dot's road maintenance projects. The Port Isabel area's air quality issues are very apparent.Commissioner Garza and the dust control committee will be identifying and addressing some of these concerns to the United States Army Corps of Engineers for their assistance and will also be looking to Congressman Solomon Ortiz' office for advice and direction on how to proceed.

The dust issues have become costly for many of these entities and the air quality is an ongoing issue for the residents. It is Commissioner Garza's and the dust control committee's intent to continue meeting and developing partnershipsso they can tackle this problem.
