VITAL STATISTICS

All Births and Deaths occurring outside the city limits, but within the County's boundaries, are registered with the County Clerk, who serves as the Local Registrar as of January 1, 2009. The original Certificates are recorded at the Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Vital Statistics in Austin, Texas. The Cameron County Clerk can access and issue a copy of a Birth certificate on-line with Austin, of any person born in Texas. A Birth record is closed information and can be available to the public after the 75th anniversary of the date of birth.

A Death Record is closed information and can be available to the public after the 25th anniversary of the date of death.

The County Clerk's Office issues Marriage Licenses in the Main office in Brownsville and our San Benito branch.  You may also apply at the Tax Office locations within Cameron County in Harlingen, La Feria, Los Fresnos, Port Isabel, and Rio Hondo.

The hours of operation for the Main office and San Benito Branch are
Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

The hours of operation for the Tax office are Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
