Cameron County and District Attorney Armando R. Villalobos leads an office considered to be one of the largest law firms in the Rio Grande Valley. The office consists of 35 attorneys and 64 support staff and investigators.

With a budget of approximately six million dollars, the District Attorney's Office continues to grow and meet the numerous challenges that are presented on a daily basis and the never ending flow of cases that are sent for review and prosecution. The number of cases currently stands at approximately 16,000.

Mr. Villalobos has appointed Interim Chief First Assistant District Attorney Rene Gonzalez and Executive First Assistant District Attorney Samuel B. Smith to oversee and assist him on ongoing tasks and responsibilites at the office.

Mr. Gonzalez assists Mr. Villalobos on the oversight of all criminal cases that are submitted to the District Attorney's Office. Mr. Smith handles all administration and personnel issues as well as the civil cases handled by our office.

Office Manager Michelle L. Garcia assists Mr. Smith in handling all personnel matters and coordination of budget items within the District Attorney's Office.
