New Texas state law requires that all students entering college or a
university need to be vaccinated with the Meningococcal vaccine.
Without the vaccine you cannot enter college.

Who needs to be vaccinated? First time students, transfer
students, or students that have been previously enrolled in
a higher education institution will need the Meningitis
vaccine at least 10 days prior to the beginning of the semester.

Who is exempt from needing to be vaccinated? A student enrolled
online, in a continuing education program (less than 360 contact
hours), 30 years of age by the first day of the semester or a student
enrolled in a dual credit course that is not located on a higher
education campus. Also, students that are able to show proof
of an initial meningococcal vaccination or a booster dose during
the five-year period will be exempt.

As the Meningitis vaccine may cost more than $100 at your local
pharmacy, we urge you get immunized before you turn 19 years
of age. If you are 19 years of age or older, please check with
your private insurance carriers to see if the cost of the vaccine is
covered. In addition, adolescents who are 18 years of age or
and without private insurance may be eligible to
participate in the Texas Vaccines for Children Program. The Texas
Vaccine for Children Program is a federally funded program that
provides vaccines to eligible children at no cost who might otherwise
not be vaccinated because of inability to pay.
