The Cameron County Sheriff's Office Detention Division Facilities will at times face situations such as: barricaded inmates, hostage taking or riots that pose extreme danger to correction officers, staff members and the public.It is the mission of The Corrections Emergency Response Team to respond as a cohesive unit to emergency situations within the detention division, by minimizing danger and inconvenience to the public, while maximizing the safety of the public and departmental personnel.

The Cameron County Sheriff's Office Corrections Emergency Response Team was created to accomplish the following objectives:

1. To resolve, utilizing special equipment and procedures to all critical incidents;
2. To provide support to other units of the Cameron County Sheriff's Office; or other law enforcement agencies.
