Most people who move here want to know how to register their vehicles. If you are
new to Texas, there are a few steps to follow. If you have moved to CameronCounty from another county in Texas, registration is the same, but the fees may differ. You will not be able to use a renewal form that shows another county.
Missing Renewal Notice?
Here's what to do to avoid missing your registration deadline:

If your vehicle is registered in Texas you can renew your registration by presenting a current drivers license and proof of insurance at your local Tax Branch Office
New to Texas?
To obtain your Texas driver's license and Texas license plates for your car...
- Get insurance that meets Texas 20/40/15 requirements. That's $20,000 and $40,000 personal injury, and $15,000 property damage.
- Get a Vehicle Identification Certificate (VI-30A / green sheet) from the inspection station.
- Bring proof of ownership (title or current registration), proof of insurance (the declarations page of the policy showing coverage limits if issued outside of Texas), and the VI-30A 'green sheet' from DPS inspection to the Cameron County tax office.
- Fees are: $13 title application fee, and the registration fee based on the vehicle type. Check the charts above
